FISHING AT OLAVIPE - TUES 21ST FEB

This method of fishing involved stamping around in the water to disturb fish and then throwing a net over the escaping fish and scooping them up

simple fishing rod method - very effective, we saw him fishing several out in the space of 20 minutes

these ladies are diving for small shellfish which we're told are freshwater cockles

These are the discarded shells which are distributed on the soil after the contents have been removed

  3. Hi Di ... I think its just used as a fertilizer. This walk was one of the best ones we've done around Olavipe (over the last 2 visits). We've never seen the 'diving for cockles' before or seen the 'net' fishing style in the shallow freshwater lakes. Kerala is 'God's own Country' and certainly it is very fertile .. wonderful spices/fruits and fish in abundance!
